In 1938, after about 100 alcoholics in Akron and New York had become sober, the fellowship decided to promote its program of recovery through the publication of a book, for which Bill Wilson (Bill W.) was chosen as primary author. The book was given the title Alcoholics Anonymous and included the list of suggested activities for spiritual growth known as the Twelve Steps. The movement itself took on the name of the book. The Big Book has served as a lifeline to millions worldwide. First published in 1939, Alcoholics Anonymous sets forth cornerstone concepts of recovery from alcoholism and tells the stories of men and women who have overcome the dis-ease. 400 pages. Also laid in is a single sheet Introduction to the 50th Anniversary Reprint along with a handwritten note to Lois [Wilson?] from Peter dated 8/19/98 explaining the rationale for producing this edition and two "Read the Big Book" stickers. In fine condition with some very light dust jacket fading along the spine.

NOTE that the almost-never-seen red card covers (but not marked "Loan Copy" as some were supposed to have been) are both bound in here. Overall, an amazingly well-preserved and historically important annotated association copy of this major work that has saved the lives of so many people since its publication 75 years ago.
