Bill Wilson (Bill W.) and Bob Smith (Dr. Bob) began meeting in 1935. Bill Wilson, Bob Smith and others began telling their stories which resulted in the publishing of this book in 1939, "Alcoholics Anonymous", The Story of How More Than One Hundred Men Have Recovered from Alcoholism, the foundation of Alcoholics Anonymous. Today, there are estimated to be over 2 million men and women members of Alcoholics Anonymous. This original book has gone into many printings and editions. This book is bound in red cloth with gilt lettering. There is very light foxing to the first four pages and the edge of the page block. With this exception, the book appears new, tight and square with its 400 pages bright and unmarked. The extremely rare "Circus" dustjacket is original. It has benefited from expert repair and color touch-up to several tears and one small chip to the top of the spine. It is hard to imagine a nicer copy in existence. The book is housed in a as new clamshell case, 1/4 red leather spine with raised bands, gilt lettering and boards of red silk cloth. Book is protected in a custom cut clear mylar cover. All books are carefully wrapped and shipped in a box.

In 1938, after about 100 alcoholics in Akron and New York had become sober, the fellowship decided to promote its program of recovery through the publication of a book, for which Bill Wilson (Bill W.) was chosen as primary author. The book was given the title Alcoholics Anonymous and included the list of suggested activities for spiritual growth known as the Twelve Steps. The movement itself took on the name of the book. The Big Book has served as a lifeline to millions worldwide. First published in 1939, Alcoholics Anonymous sets forth cornerstone concepts of recovery from alcoholism and tells the stories of men and women who have overcome the dis-ease. 400 pages. In fine condition with some very light dust jacket fading along the spine.

The first black cloth binding has been separately preserved along with the original endpapers from that binding. NOTE that the almost-never-seen red card covers (but not marked "Loan Copy" as some were supposed to have been) are both bound in here. Overall, an amazingly well-preserved and historically important annotated association copy of this major work that has saved the lives of so many people since its publication 75 years ago.
