First Edition
Softcovers. Condition: Very Good. Revised and enlarged Edition. 1914. Revised and enlarged edition. x, 182pp., a folding diagram showing patrolling formations for reconnoitring at the end of the book and a list of other publications on the endpapers. In 1899, while serving in the 2nd Boer War, Robert Baden-Powell penned his sixth military book, Aids To Scouting. It was a non-typical training manual with personal stories and even games. Its goal was to encourage the development of light reconnaissance scouting skills within the British Army. The book was well received by various armies of its time, including the French Army. The work was also taken up by teachers and youth groups to help organize outdoor activities and sport, and Baden-Powell eventually embraced the idea of adapting his work into a new youth-oriented book, Scouting for Boys (1908). The book is bound in the original red card covers with black titling on the spine and front cover. The book is in very good condition with shelf wear to the covers and fading to the spine. There is a small bookseller's label on the bottom front cover and a burn stain near the middle fore edge of the front cover (probably the result of a cigarette being rested on the edge). The contents are secure and clean with no inscription.
