Hardcover, bound in red cloth titled in gilt with decorations in gilt on the spine and with decorations & a vignette in gilt on the front cover. The top edge is gilt. The covers… are lightly bumped and the spine is somewhat faded. 160 pages, with a decorated title page printed in red & black. Very good. First edition. A title in the "Famous Scots Series". Inscribed and signed by the author Hector MacPherson to the radical English politician Leonard Courtney (1832-1918) and his wife Catherine on the front endpaper. There is a later ownership signature of R.H. Murray, Grove House, Goring at the top of the page.
