Folio. 8.25 x 13.25 inches. 6 + [2] pp. Disbound act. Some wear to page edges but otherwise a good copy. Decorated by headpiece vignette and by initial. A further Act to enlarge and repair the roads between Rochester and Maidstone, following the original Act of 1727, which led to the establishment of the Turnpike Trust in 1728 and subsequent Acts, including that of 1773. The Act states that the Trustees are having difficulty in repaying their borrowings of 'considerable Sums of Money on the Credit of the Tolls authorized,' It therefore appoints several additional trustees and and allows tolls to be collected up to twice a day, instead of only once a day by the same person as previously authorised, and enacts other provisions to protect and possibly enhance, the revenues of the Trust.
