In its original dust wrapper, rubbed at edges, crushed at spine ends, a little browned and shelf worn. Carol Barker painted the pictures in this book after a visit to Greece (where the story is set). British writer H E Bates (Fair Stood the Wind for France; Love for Lydia; The Darling Buds of May etc) liked the pictures so much he agreed to provide a text story to accompany them - and Achilles the Donkey was born. There were to be two further Achilles stories from the partnership - Achilles and Diana and Achilles and the Twins.
