Illustrated with frontispiece and seven engraved plates. Vol. 2: xxiv, 442, (16), 2pp ads. Fifth edition. 1787. Illustrated with folding frontispiece (Death of Captain Cook), folding chart and seven engraved plates. A complete set of Kearsley's octavo edition of Cook's voyages known for its striking plates. Both front covers are detached and the calf bindings are heavily worn with some dryness and cracking to the spines. The textblock of Vol. 2 is split in the middle and starting to detach from the binding. The text in both volumes is in very good shape with no chips or tears to any of the pages or plates. The plates have some foxing and the Death of Cook plate some creasing at the bottom. The map of Cook's voyages has a short closed tear at one of the top folds. Vol. 1 has some spotting to the frontispiece and title page. A few pages in Vol. 1 have some dampstaining at the edges.
