In four volumes.Celebrated work by John Chetwode Eustace documenting his travels through Italy between 1801 and 1802 while accompanying his pupils John Cust, Robert Rushbroke, and Philip Roche. This work was originally published in 1813 and became an instant success, making the author aprominent figure in literary society. The work went through eight editions between 1813 and 1841 and is considered a standard handbook for classical tourists.Two leaves of publisher's advertisements to rear vol. In uniform full calf bindings with gilt tooling to spine and boards, five raised bands, marbled edges and endpapers. Missing spine labels. Externally with wear to extremities, minor loss to head of spine vol II, headband exposed. Boards vol. I loose but present. Front board vol. III loose but present, rear board may detach with further handling, held by one cord only. Cracking to joints vol. II and IV, boards tender but holding. Internally, text block firmly bound.
