First edition. 63pp., a frontispiece, 5 black and white plates, a map of the Parish of Uig and a map of Scotland showing steamer routes to the Outer Hebrides on the endpapers. Maybud Sherwood Campbell (1903-1982) was an opera singer and keen amateur botanist who was Secretary to the Botanical Society of the British Isles. Her substantial private herbarium, consisting largely of plants from the Outer Hebrides including material collected with the former Keeper of Botany, Alfred James Wilmott (1888-1950) was donated to the British Museum (Natural History). In 1939 she carried out an expedition to the Outer Hebrides, and her findings form the basis of this book. It includes a paper on vegetation and systematic notes by A.J. Wilmott. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear to the boards and very light bumping to the bottom of the spine. The contents are tight and clean and tipped-in between the back of the front free endpaper and the back of the frontispiece is a printed note regarding flora of the Outer Hebrides initialled by M.S. Campbell. SIGNED COPY.
