Hardcover. Condition: New. Limited Edition. Number 140 of only 300 copies issued, new and unread. This beautiful edition was issued without a jacket. It has an exclusive introduction by Adrian Woodhouse and a very rare item indeed, the text of a lecture given by Egan in 1933 on the subject of drawing. There are a number of brilliant drawings included in Pollen, one of which was never used in the original 1933 edition. A superlative production by Side Real Press. A super bonus: the original publisher's slip from the 1933 edition is loose laid in the book, signed by the publisher and including the blind embossed stamp of the Side Real Press. This is a specially printed addition not included in most copies. Language: eng Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng.…

Add to basketHardcover. First edition thus (& 1st printing). 552 pages: first published in Germany in 1907 and first English translation in 1927. This new volume is largely a reprint of the 1927 John Day edition (complete with the Mahlon Blaine artwork), which was closely overseen ''line by line'' by Ewers himself. However the Day publication had a number of passages removed, partly over issues relating to its sexual content. These have been restored to this edition courtesy of Joe E. Bandel, thus making it the most complete version in English. New five-page introduction by editor/publisher John Hirschhorn-Smith, plus the first publication of the 100-page screenplay of the 1935 play ''The Sorcerer's Apprentice: A Play In 12 Scenes'' by Howard Phillips, plus Sabine Baring-Gould's 20-page ''A Swiss Passion Play'' (detailing the real case of mass hysteria occuring in a Swiss Alpine village 1817-1823, from which Ewers partly based his novel), plus John Hirschhorn-Smith's 45-page essay ''Mystics And Mersmerism In The Sorcerer's Apprentice'', again first published here. LIMITED EDITION: 350 numbered copies printed. Fine copy in pictorial boards, as issued without dustjacket (as new).…

Original decorative navy blue cloth with green and red titles and white-stamped bottle motif to upper board. Red titles and initial letters to each chapter throughout. Signed to title-page by the editor John Hirschorn-Smith. Slight bumpt to top corner of upper board, otherwise a fine copy. A collection of strange tales by various authors, inspired by Hanns Ewers (1871-1943) whose major literary themes were obsession, depravity and blood. He travelled extensively worldwide, was a propagandist/spy during WWI, screenwriter, poet, playwright, early activist for homosexual rights, correspondent with Aleister Crowley, experimental drug user, and had associations with members of the Nazi elite. Ewers' original published works are rare and have only fairly recently been made available through Side Real Press in, as here, limited editions of 350 copies.…
