A case study is a detailed account of an industry company person situation incident or project over a given period of time. In general the content within a case study may include information about company objectives process strategies challenges results recommendations and more. Case study analysis is an important part of most business school curriculum. Case studies are used to teach business school students about business practices. The objective behind incorporation of business and institutional case studies in curriculum is to make students aware of various issues faced by the industry person process or project contemporarily and involve them in getting right solutions through analytical skills and problem solving skills. One of the important factor one has to keep in mind here in this context is the nature of volatile business environment where the managerial process are subjected to change every moment and the individual managers have to take innumerable managerial decisions based on the date available from various sources. Here the managers should be intellectually stimulated emotionally matured analytically well balanced action oriented and bold enough to take appropriate decisions. What the Harvard business school says about case study method is the case study method forces the students to grapple exactly the kinds of decisions and dilemmas managers confront every day. In doing so it redefines the traditional educational dynamics in which the professor dispenses the knowledge and students passively receive it. Case studies are often used to not only illustrate what a student has learned and retained in class but also to provide students with valuable hands on experience. When analyzing a case study the students will put problem solving skills to the test and allow them to engage in exciting discussions with classmates and professors. This particular case study workbook incorporate the case studies from organizational behaviour human resources management and general management. This volume of book consists of 25 case studies and is the maiden effort the author is making for the benefit of students faculty members researchers trainers and management consultants. The updated edition will be published every year with more case studies. 117 pp.

Foreign capital flows I Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). 5. Foreign capital flows II Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI). 6. Foreign exchange management. 7. WTO and India. Bibliography. The importance of external sector in India's economic development has been well recognized and reinforced especially since the initiation of economic reforms in 1991. A study of India's external sector includes a study of a number of aspects such as value composition direction of foreign trade trade policies pursued balance of payments status role of foreign capital WTO related issues (such as textile and patents) etc. A paradigm shift in India's Trade Policy enabled it to not only overcome severe BOP crisis (occurred in 1991) but also provide the much needed resilience to the economy. India has been experiencing surpluses on current account for the past three successive years and has built up foreign exchange reserves to the tune of $128.91 billion as on Feb. 4 2005. Besides there has been a perceptible change in the magnitude composition and direction of foreign trade as well as a structural change in BOP account. Unlike past India's export basket is now more diversified and gaining more strength from the manufactured goods thereby reducing the share of agriculture and allied products. However in terms of the share of total world trade India's performance has not been so good. It caters to only 0.8 per cent of total world trade at present (as against 2 per cent in early 1950s). This book provides a comprehensive coverage and analysis of various aspects of India's external sector. The present volume should be of interest and use to those in research academics business government and to policymakers engaged in the management of economic policy reforms. It also caters to the needs of students of economics and international business. 156 pp.

The first wave of globalisation was perhaps witnessed in 1870 and it continued up to 1914. The profound influence in driving globalisation came from technological innovation which in fact led to an explosion of productivity and reduction in transportation costs. But the wave came to an end by World War I. The second wave brought about from 1945 to 1980. This continued reducing transportation cost further which effectively fostered increased trade. The latest wave of globalisation began in 1980 is something different. It is distinctive in the sense that a large number of developing nations entered into the world market for selling their manufacturing goods. At the same time some other developing nations became increasingly marginalised in the world economy. 172 pp.

Women in general relative to men face unequal hiring standards unequal opportunities for training unequal pay for equal work unequal access to productive resources segregation and concentration in female sectors and occupations different physical and mental working conditions unequal participation in economic decision making and unequal promotion prospects. These factors negatively affect women's social status and their position in society relative to men and consequently have an impact on gender inequalities in health. Poor people frequently lack access to affordable reliable safe and environmentally benign sources of energy. This hinders their efforts to move out of poverty and seriously constrains their ability to improve their living situations. People without modern energy services must spend more of their time and physical energy on survival and therefore have fewer opportunities to pursue educational and income generating activities. 200 pp.

People power and poverty lie at the bottom of democracy but the system operates from the top. This creates the Panchayat Dilemma. Panchayat is said to be the God that failed but remains the last hope of the poor in the villages. Will Indian democracy take a u turn to reach the poor is a big question mark. The book tries to solve some of the riddles related to Panchayats and throws light on issue which the policy makers have so far by passed or over looked. Panchayats should not be looked at from above on the contrary the top governance should be looked at from the Panchayats levels. This may solve most of the problems facing the top heavy democracy today. The book may open new doors for the success of Panchayats and more realistic approach to village Panchayats as vibrant units of development for the poor. 204 pp.

Concluding observations and policy recommendations. Bibliography. Female criminality in India has been a neglected subject of study. Due to low incidence of female criminality there is less emphasis on research in this field. However there has been increasing academic interest on female criminality since in the recent past growth of female crimes has shown upward trend. Importantly imprisonment of mother with dependent young child is a problematic issue. The effects of incarceration can be catastrophic on the children and costly to the state in terms of providing for their care. Children should not be allowed to stay in jails because jails are not the place to bring up children. The children of women prisoners living with them in jails are being deprived of their basic rights entitlements and amenities for their development. Against this backdrop present study purports to review the status of women prisoners and their young children living with them and suggesting policy measures for their development. 200 pp.

This book is designed to deal with the critical themes and issues in medical anthropology. Medical anthropology is an interdisciplinary bio cultural discipline cutting across the boundaries of epidemiology sociology human genetics and community medicine including public health. Anthropological orientations in studying human behaviour related to health and illness offer useful insights to physicians researchers and paramedical staff working especially in remote tribal and rural areas. Anthropological sophistication fosters a questioning attitude towards medical practices modern as well as traditional which may be introduced in the un/under developed areas where the natives culture is taken for granted by the planners without adequate support from well controlled studies. Although this book is intended to be a source book for all the researchers and teachers of anthropology in Indian Universities and colleges at various levels all those who are working in the area of health illness and healing it is hoped would find it useful in some way or other. The last chapter on paradigms of health and the contexts of marginalization without doubt would be of interest to many others. 128 pp.

Hardbound. Condition: As New. New. This book deals with the Dalits and the Christian Missionaries from various denominations who worked in different areas of Andhra. Among the Christians in Andhra Pradesh according to one estimate 98% belong to the Dalit communities. The status of Dalits in India has been documented in many well known anthropological works highlighting the lowliest of lowly status in Indian society with the unique associated dimension of the practice of untouchability. The introductory chapter deals with the traditional characteristic features of the caste system and the position of Dalits within it. Much of the data related to Dalits was taken from my doctoral thesis submitted to Andhra University in the late seventies. The ethnographic details of the two dominant Dalit castes of Andhra the Mala and the Madiga and their origins according to different legends have been described in the following chapters together with the influence of Christianity on them tracing the history of different Christian Missionaries from various denominations who worked in this area. The failures of the Christian Missionaries with the high castes and the reasons there of are vividly described. The efforts of the Lutheran Missionaries ever since the arrival of Fr. Heyer has been elaborately dealt with and the long list of Missionaries arrived from foreign lands has been given in the appendix. Towards the end an attempt is made to trace the evolution of a Dalit theology which is distinctly a part of the Asian contextual theology. This book would be of interest to anthropologists sociologists and other social scientists who are interested particularly in the study of Dalit matters and the proselatization activities of Christian Missionaries. The impact of Christianity on the lives of the Dalits could be gauged through the pages of this book.

As world has become a Global village so getting information gathering knowledge from one corner of the world to other corner is an easy task. But travelling from one corner to another for a common man/middle income earner is still a problem as huge sum of money is required not only as travel cost but payment towards visa airport tax etc. The problem is neutralized to a great extent if some one gets employment or invited by the foreign country as resource person. The author had the opportunity to visit two countries viz. Islamic Republic of Iran (Resource person) and the State of Eritrea (Associate Professor). Islamic Republic of Iran is famous for its ancient civilization. Most of its places have historical importance. Moreover the country is surrounded by three seas Caspian Gulf of Persian and Sea of Oman and many rivers and mountains. From tourism point of view a country is to be seen. The author visited Iran in May 2001 and shared his experience about the country in this volume. Eritrea a small country located in North East Africa is a young nation as it got its independence in the year 1991. Author worked as associate professor for two years and during this period he could get an idea about their culture food habit language tourist places etc. All these have been narrated by the author in this volume. 112 pp.

An economically backward society such as Bihar lacks all those dynamic qualities that support sustain and speed up socio economics growth. Removal of all the road blocks is a prerequisite for empowerment. The Dalit must get their due share in and access to societal resources. Although the development process has made a slight dent in the dense structure of inequality empowerment has to be cultivated to transform the state of helplessness and passivity into a state of hope and action. This can only be achieved through psychological mobilization necessary for demolishing the edifice of inequality injustice and exploitation. It induces radical change in one's personality resulting in a new approach to the prevailing situation. The Panchayati Raj possesses all potentials for the creation of a new social order. It provides a platform for grassroots action. In many places it has been an instrument of liberation education and collective intervention and critical thinking of marginalized groups to shape their own future. In the present book an attempt has been made to probe the process of empowerment of elected scheduled caste representatives both men and women in six districts in Bihar in which they have a large concentration. The role played by them in the running of the Gram Panchayat has been examined. The constraints to the empowerment process by demolishing structural as well as socio economic barriers have been discussed. 134 pp.

Since the seventeenth century there existed a keen competition among European Maritime powers to trade with India. The first among the Europeans to reach the shores of Kerala were the Portuguese. They were followed by the Dutch the French and then the British. The English East India Company began its trade with India in 1600. Within a span of one hundred and fifty years it acquired territorial control in different parts of India. Author's present study deals with the East India Company's Timber Trade that was carried on between the Malabar Province and the Bombay Town between 1792 and 1823. His study further deals with the shipbuilding industry that flourished in Bombay because of the timber procured from the Malabar. His concern is to locate the trading networks that developed between these two important regions. 114 pp.

Determinants of adoption of new technology on tribal and non tribal farms. 5. Impact on new technology adoption on tribal and non tribal farmers. 6. Findings and policy measures. Bibliography. India has the second largest concentration of tribal population in the world. As per 2001 population census tribals constitute about 8 per cent of the total population of the country. Although the technological breakthrough as such in Indian agriculture is no longer a new phenomenon yet it has got a significant relevance particularly for the regions which are still lying in the embryonic stage of agricultural development. Tribal dominated regions have not yet been able to benefit from the fruits of technological innovation. The present book attempts to examine the determinants of the adoption of new agricultural technology and impact of the adoption of new agricultural technology on productivity employment income and consumption expenditure of tribal and non tribal farmers in a tribal block of Maharashtra State. This book also makes some important suggestions for promoting the adoption of new agricultural practices by tribal farmers in the study area. 124 pp.
