Contact seller5-star sellerSoft cover. Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. Offered is "The Judgment Day: How Near Are We To It?" (No. 21 in the Bible Lecture Series) written by John Ford and self-published in 1936 out of Washington, D.C. A stapled pamphlet measuring 5-1/4" by 7-5/8" and containing 16 pages including front and rear covers. With three interior il…lustrations and one diagram, Mr. Ford, a Seventh-day Adventist, draws from the Book of Daniel and other books of the Old Testament to discuss in detail the prophetic timetable leading to the year 1844, Christ's cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary. As a result, Mr. Ford writes, "Dear reader, the judgment must be nearly over. It has been in progress now for more than ninety years [since 1844]. The work must be nearly finished. At any moment the Judge of the universe may make the final pronouncements and close the day of judgment." John Ford was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, a denomination which grew out of the Millerite movement during the previous mid-century (William Miller, 1782-1849, predicted Christ's Second Coming by October 22, 1844. After the "Great Disappointment," as it was known, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which was formally established in 1863, agreed with Miller's calculations but emphasized that the year 1844 signified Christ's entrance into the heavenly sanctuary rather than his Earthly Return). Staples rusted; light water stains to one-third portion of each page (not affecting pagination).

(No. 26 in the Bible Lecture Series) written by John Ford and self-published in 1936 out of Washington, D.C. A stapled pamphlet measuring 5-1/4" by 7-5/8" and containing 16 pages including front and rear cov…ers. Mr. Ford, a Seventh-day Adventist, discusses early first-century Church history and development, and writes of the present day, "Practically all church organizations believe part of [the] ten commandments, but not more than one or two churches believe in the observance of the fourth commandment. The fourth commandment requires the observance of Saturday, the seventh day of the week, as the Sabbath day" and concludes, "Of the few denominations who teach the observance of Sabbath, there is only one organization that believes in the Sabbath and also in Christ's teaching in regard to man's condition in death. This organization is the Seventh-day Adventist Church. I believe with all my heart that this is God's true church today." Staples lightly rusted (no bleeding); light water stains to upper margins of each page.

Offered is a first edition, first printing of "A Fatal Mistake" (No. 17 Bible Lecture Series) written by John Ford and self-published in 1936 out of Washington, D.C. A stapled pamphlet measuring 5-1/4" by 7-1/2" and containing 16 pages including front and rear covers. With illustrations…throughout, Mr. Ford, a Seventh-day Adventist, writes, in brief, "But over the waters I wish to shout my message to everybody: 'Peace has been declared. Come into the harbor, where there is food and water to spare.' Men will not believe it. They turn in fear from the God of heaven, or disbelieve that such a person exists, and depend entirely upon their human efforts for salvation - if such exists, they reason. As the years go by, and they see the eventide of life slowly creeping in upon them, with the blackness of eternal night and eternal death gathering round them, they finally risk themselves to the mercies of God, and find that peace has actually been declared between God and man through Jesus Christ." Light, narrow waterstain along upper page edges (to upper margin, not affecting pagination); small 1949 Christmas Seal pasted to last inside page.

Offered is a first edition, first printing of "Unquenchable Fire" (No. 6 Bible Lecture Series) written by John Ford and self-published in 1936 out of Washington, D.C. A stapled pamphlet measuring 5-1/4" by 7-5/8" and containing 16 pages including front and rear covers. With illustrations… throughout, Mr. Ford writes, in brief, "Jesus does not say that the fire of hell, or Gehenna, could not be put out, but He said it WAS not put out. The words 'not quenched' do not mean that the fire did not go out or could not be put out. The fire of Gehenna was not quenched because it was needed to destroy all the refuse. The fire of Gehenna was not a fire in which to torture people. It was a fire kept to destroy refuse. I believe that Jesus wished to emphasize that the fires of hell would burn for the purpose of destroying sin. There is nothing in the illustration which indicates that He wished to convey the idea that the fires of hell would be for torture." Staples rusted (no bleeding); outer covers detached but present and show light to moderate wear and a few closed edge tears.
