The olive cloth boards remain clean and well preserved, with bright gilt spine lettering and only light rubbing at the corners. The binding is tight and square, and the interior is crisp and clean for a 1968 Harlin Quist first printing, with no marks other than the author's inscription. The dust jacket shows moderate wear along the edges, several short closed tears, small chips at the spine ends, surface rubbing, and light soiling to the pale green panels, but remains complete, attractive, and fully legible. The front free endpaper bears a warm inscription from Rhoda to "Emma, Bridget, Jen & Jo," which—given provenance—may possibly refer to Walton's daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton.
