Many authors have written volumes over its probability. This small book on the subject is a humble attempt to give a new dimension to the whole issue. Only a few evidences have been presented in this book in support of the date of the Mahaparinirvana of Lord Buddha. After years of careful study and analysis of all the matters related to the date in question, I prefer to mention only those data which are really very relevant and authentic as per the standard texts and archaeological sources. Many other interesting stories on the subject, which fall under the category of speculation have been given no attention and hence are not mentioned here.

"Al-Hilal was an Urdu weekly founded and edited by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in 1912. Much more than a journal, it was a message, a movement, a voice of protest and revolt, which for the first time since 1857 shook the placid Urdu-speaking world of India to political agitation and action. No wonder that in about a couple of years it was suppressed by the colonial administration. But in the short period of its life, the Al-Hilal had firmly placed Maulana Abul Kalam Azad at the pinnacle of his literary and political fame where he remained throughout the liberation struggle of the country and after. Abul Kalam Azad was a man of religion, like Gandhiji. He wedded the spirit of Islam with the country s freedom struggle. The Al-Hilal is the reflection of the initial stages of this process. The present selection from Al-Hilal (and its rendering into English) under the title The Dawn of Hope , is an effort to make it representative of Abul Kalam Azad s first step on this road, opening them to a wider audience than is provided by Urdu." Add to basketHardbound. Condition: As New. New. Contents Preface. Introduction. 1. Tribes in India living on the fringe. 2. Gender disparity in education among the Tribes in India. 3. Tribal education and gender question a case study of Matelli block in Jalpaiguri district. Conclusion. Bibliography. Index. Despite 58 years experimentation with the policy of protective discrimination and planned development a large majority of the 80.2 million tribal people languish in abject poverty landlessness powerlessness illiteracy and malnutrition. Being caught in the hangover of the strong patriarchic tradition the women of nearly 700 marginalized tribal communities find themselves highly exploited subjugated and voiceless. The present book first of its kind on tribes living in northern districts of West Bengal (popularly known as North Bengal) explores the areas of subjugation of tribal life and particularly that of the tribal women and analytically presents the case of tribal women in a tea garden locale in the Dooars region of Jalpaiguri district. The focus of the study has been education i.e. how the tribes in general and tribal women in particular are doing in the field of education. The field of education is chosen because it is generally considered the most important force of empowerment enlightenment and social transformation and because it provides us with a field to explore the areas of gender discrimination subsumed in tribal patriarchy. The book has approached the problem of tribal education and the gender question in education against the backdrop of the dialectics of dominant subordinate relationship between the state and the dominant society on the one hand and the marginalized tribes on the other. The uniqueness of the book lies in its critical approach to the state sponsored development strategies and its emphasis on a cultural approach for a better understanding of the problem and for working out alternative development strategies for improving the educational status of the tribal communities. 166 pp.
