Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Vera Willoughby (illustrator). 1st Edition. Published simultaneously in the UK and US in an edition limited to 999 copies, this being number 282. This is an attractive book with an elegant typeface used (Rudolph Koch's Kursiv), nice paper (Pannekoek), and highly competent printing (Curwen Press). There's a Preface by the editor and an Index of Authors and First Lines. A major attraction of the book is the eight full page, delicately colored drawings of the Hungarian-born British artist, Vera Willoughby (1870-1939). Amongst many other artistic endeavors, she produced a splendid book in 1925 called "A Vision of Greece" and did some beautiful posters for the London Underground in the early 30's. The green vellum spine is a little faded with the gilt lettering dulled. Decorated paper covered boards are worn on corners, unevenly browned, and there's a three inch line of pink staining to upper board. A bookplate on front pastedown reveals a previous owner to have been LeRoy Provins, an obscure author of a 1958 book, "So You Want To Be a New Yorker". Still a very good tight copy and a lot of book for $16. MC.

(Everyman's Library) Clean, tight, unmarked; very minimal wear to upper edge of dust jacket; otherwise absolute minimal wear; burgundy sewn-in ribbon markerThe poems of Christina Rossetti (1830-94) have always been cherished for their exquisitely turned lyrical beauty and the pleasures they provide to the senses. What has become increasingly clear to contemporary readers of her work is its inner strength, the power by which it weaves the erotic with the spiritual, and its deep intimacy with the mysterious.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. The author realises that "One morning I realised that I was close to Jimmie Lunceford's fatal age, causing me to entertain a strange logic. If all the good swingers like Lunceford and Gershwin uaor Mozart for that matter uatended to die early, and I was still alive, it followed that I was unable to swing". The book is a celebration of eccentricity, orgasms, and the challenge of being middle-aged. Guided by his 'stride' piano-playing, 78 record collector friend Booker, Lawrence's search for 'a new song' takes him to a medieval village in the South of France. The cast includes the reclusive American cartoonist R.Crumb, Pete, the world's foremost Zorro enthusiast, and the persuasive Nini, doyenne of the disproportionately large contingent of piano tuners. /// This is a 1st edition hardback with its dustjacket in near to fine condition-the edges to the dustjacket are slightly creased.
