Add to basketCloth. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First edition. A lovely limited edition anthology of the writings of Simon Evans, a local personality and postman tied with Cleobury Mortimer. With a signed photograph and card from the author. First edition, first impression, limited to 150 copies. This copy comes with a…n additional signed portrait of the author, a signed Christmas card from the author, two unsigned portraits on card, an appreciation card from Mrs. Simon Evans (presumably sent following Evans' passing), a clipping of Evans' writings published in Country Life 1939, and a newspaper clipping from 1940 which states Evans to introduce the songs of George Palmer for a BBC broadcast. In the publisher's cloth binding, with the publisher's unclipped dust wrapper. With a map and nine double-sided pages of illustrations. Collated, complete. Simon Evans, a postman for much of his short life, also developed a reputation in the 1930s as a writer and broadcaster on country life, particularly in and around rural South Shropshire. His first book,Round About the Crooked Steeple, was the most successful, and the only one to be reprinted. This anthology contains pieces such as 'Portrait of a Rural Postman', 'Jonathan Shakeshaf goes to Town', 'Ducks and Little Inns', and 'Little Peterkin', among others. Plaques in his memory have been created in Cleobury Mortimer, where he lived for 14 years, as well as a 28-km walk based on his postal round. A fantastic copy for any avid collector of this postman-author. In the publisher's cloth binding, with the publisher's unclipped dust wrapper.Externally, lovely. Dust wrapper is very smart indeed, with a couple minor tide marks to the head and tail of the spine and nick to the head. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Fine. Not Stated (illustrator). signed by author. book.
