Paperback. Condition: Very Good. "The New 100 Houses" is the fourth book in "Images'" popular "100 Best Houses" series. "Images" has again selected houses that represent the very best in international residential architecture. The houses featured represent everything from the modern to the classical. This is a book that can be browsed through time and again, with each viewing guaranteed to inspire, delight and surprise. Outstanding colour photography captures interior design, layout and furnishings, while exterior photographs meld the house design with its environment. As well as the usual design locations, the book's scope is far more international than earlier titles in the series, with a broader listing of architects from exotic locations such as the Aegean Coast of Turkey, Slovenia, Peru's arid coastline, Bulgaria, as well as from the traditional locations in North America, the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. "The photography is stunning and the book gives a privileged insight into some of the most beautiful and stylish resorts. Highly Recommended! "Hot Brands Cool Places There are few destinations more alluring than resorts. The combination of an evocative location, lavish rooms, exceptional service and architecture that's designed to inspire, has long been irresistible to travellers. In the past decade, however, the global search for stylish getaways has become so intense that hospitality has now become the world's fastest growing industry. Few people understand the nature of resorts and the secrets of designing them more than the world-renowned architects and designers, Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo (WATG), whose mission over the last six decades has been 'to design experiences that lift the spirit'. Having created hundreds of exclusive destinations for well-known companies such as the Four Seasons, Sheraton and Hyatt, ranging from luxurious island resorts to exotic desert getaways, sophisticated urban hideaways, and cool mountaintop retreats, WATG has become a respected name in the area of resorts and hotels. Some of their extraordinary projects include the Hotel Bora Bora in French Polynesia, The Palace of the Lost City in South Africa, The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel in California, and the Hyatt Regency in Kauai Resort & Spa in Hawaii. This spectacular volume looks at these and other world-class destinations, and also takes you behind the foyers to explore the inspiration and ideas behind the designs, which often begin from a thought on a notepad. As well, it offers insightful interviews with those involved with the projects, explains how the vernacular architecture of the region can influence the end design, and even predicts what resorts may look like in the future. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Restrooms are inescapably important amenities, but something of a grey zone when it comes to design. In a massive effort to make them inconspicuous, public restrooms have been standardised, buried in underground bunkers, hidden behind walls and unmarked doors. At times, it seems our embarrassment with their very existence has led to an inability to provide sound sanitation. This book presents a selection of over forty very diverse public restroom designs, in which toilets enjoy special status as a vehicle for various artistic and cultural expressions, corporate values and the needs of different social groups. Four experts from different backgrounds and countries have been invited to write on sensitive issues in public restroom design. More than 500 full-colour photographs, plans and detailed descriptions illustrate the designs in detail and provide fascinating information to architects, interior designers, students, and so on. AUTHOR: After qualifying as an architect, in 1985 from the National School of Architecture of Saint Etienne, France, Jacky Suchail has divided his time between Urbanism Institute of Point-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe, and the University Jean Monnet of Lyon where he was completing his degree as an urbanist. Back in Europe, he founded JSA, a practice of architecture and urbanism. Particularly concerned by innovative use of nature, design and sustainability, the office is currently involved in a wide range of projects ranging from urban planning to large scale regeneration, public buildings and social housing. Striving towards the good comprehension of contemporary issues, JSA's projects endeavour to raise a larger vision than the one suggested by their subjects and their scale. SELLING POINT: . Project Japan and Art Media, Edo to Now by Graham Cooper, with essays contributed by Japanese architects Fumihiko Maki, Kisho Kurokawa, Tadao Ando, Kengo Kuma and Makoto Sei Watanabe. Following a preface by Tadao Ando, one of Japanâs outstanding modern architects, Graham Cooper sets the scene by a brief survey of the history of Japanese architecture. This is followed by an essay entitled âMass Culture and Self-Restraint: a Japanese Aesthetic.â He then discusses the urban context which he describes as âAncient and Modern Cheek by Jowl.â In describing modern Japanese architecture he notes Fumihiko Makiâs perceptive comment that âarchitects have an obligation to involve existing craft skills in the construction industry.â After these introductory essays the book contains a âcatalogueâ (photographs) of buildings by modern Japanese architects together with descriptive commentaries. The personal contributions of modern Japanese articles are followed by a number of reviews beginning with an essay about the Japanese-American sculptor Isamu Noguchi. Project Japan examines an important period bridging the turn of the century and provides a unique snapshot of important projects in the immediate wake of Japan's extraordinary economic reconstruction. The book marks a significant peak period in the history of construction, which created considerable scope for design ingenuity and skillful application. A full-colour introduction to art in the context of architecture, Project Japan features the personal accounts of five internationally known architects. Although the book's focus is primarily towards the end of the millennium, the historical context and the years of isolation during the Edo period have also been included. Traditional buildings, classical gardens and historic townscapes are presented as keys to understanding the current scene. Size: Oblong 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. 240 pages. Dust Jacket un-clipped.
