Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. "A Time To Heal" is the autobiography of a political career and the human story of a dedicated but unassuming man propelled by history into taking on the immense burdens of the Presidency. This is a refreshingly unpretentious yet vivid book. This book deals with Ford's Presidency. It is a dramatic, forthright and firsthand account of a decent man's efforts to knit together a nation fragmented by Watergate and a White House staff often contentious and badly bruised by the legacy of the Nixon years. readers of "A Time To Heal" will come to know Gerald Ford as, until now, only his intimate friends and family have known him. SIGNED by Gerald R. Ford, the 38th President of the United States on his Presidential bookplate on the free front endpaper. An as new hardcover in a near fine, mylar covered, dust jacket. The dust jacket retains the publisher's original $12.95 price indicitive of a first edition. A very nice copy. Signed by Author(s).

Cloth. Condition: Near Fine+. First Edition, First Printing. A lovely First Edition (so stated) of Betty Ford's first book, inscribed by her on the front free endpaper (To Gene Crismon, My warmest wishes, Betty Ford, Sept. 22, 1987). In fine cream cloth but for three light spots on the front cover, very minor. The interior is clean and bright. The dustjacket is complete with the original price ($10.95) and is in fine condition but for (possible) slight lightening to the spine, also very minor. Protected by an archival plastic cover. While in the White House, Mrs. Gerald R. (Betty) Ford was an outspoken pioneer and crusader in addressing issues of addiction, women's rights and cancer treatment, having suffered addiction to painkillers, alcoholism and breast cancer. This book is her autobiography of her time in the White House and shortly after, that concludes in 1978 with her family's intervention and her treatment at the Long Beach Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Service. Her second book, "A Glad Awakening," published in 1987, basically picks up where this book leaves off. A lovely copy signed by an admirable woman. Near Fine+ in Archival Plastic Cover.

Inscribed by Gerald R. Ford to Elliot Richardson to half-title page: "To my good friend, Elliot Richardson, in appreciation of your wise consul, unselfish dedication and effective leadership. You were great and I am most grateful. Best wishes, Gerald R. Ford, 6/2/79." Additionally signed by Gerald R. Ford to publisher's tipped in page. DL consignment. Shelved Case 1 1/2. Elliot Richardson was an American lawyer and politician who was a member of the Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford cabinets between 1970-1977. Richardson held three cabinet positions under Nixon before becoming Attorney General in May 1973. As Attorney General, Richardson supervised the ongoing investigation into Vice President Spiro Agnew for tax fraud and corruption, leading to his resignation as vice president on October 10, 1973. He resigned as Nixon's Attorney General on October 20, 1973 after refusing to fire special prosecutor Archibald Cox at Nixon's request. Cox had refused to drop a subpoena for the Nixon White House tapes as part of the Watergate scandal investigation, and Richardson had promised Congress that he would not interfere with Cox in his role as special prosecutor. Richardson's departure triggered a series of resignations dubbed the Saturday Night Massacre. This event directly led to a crisis of confidence in Nixon, impeachment proceedings ten days later, Nixon's ultimate resignation, and Ford's ascension to the U.S. presidency. Under Ford, Richardson served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1975-1976 and Secretary of Commerce from 1976-1977. The historical importance of Ford's relationship with Richardson is substantial, as a direct link can be forged from Richardson's investigation into Agnew and subsequent resignation, Ford's appointment as Vice President, and the eventual resignation of President Nixon and the inauguration of Gerald Ford as President. 1384331.
