Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. ### A New Kind of War by Anthony Price 1987 ### ## THIS BOOK: Classified as NEAR FINE: This is the 1987 edition. The First edition 1987. Dust jacket is full colour and laminated. This book is clean. The binding is hardcover in black textured paper. Previous owners Ex-Libris label onfree endpaper## ## Anthony Price's last novel, 'For the Good of the State', traced the latest contemporary episode in the career of Dr David Audley of British Intelligence. In 1978, The '44 Vintage (re-published in hardback in 1985) told the story of his introduction to treachery as a second lieutenant in France after the Normandy landings. A New Kind of War picks up the thread of his life in Greece in February 1945 and then in Germany in August, as the old kind of war ends. ## ## There was no Christmas Day, 1944, for the British Army in liberated Athens: General Scobie postponed it to enable his men to concentrate on defeating their former allies, the Greek communists. It wasn't until well into the New Year's truce that Captain Frederick Fattorini of the Royal Engineers (and the London merchant banking house of Fattorini) set out to celebrate "Scobiemas" with his friend Major Kyriakos Michaelides of the Royal Hellenic Army (and the Balkan Mutual Trust Bank). Yet even then, their trip to Delphi was spoilt when they blundered into Lieutenant David Audley engaged in unashamed truce-breaking on the orders of his Brigadier on the ridge above an ancient monastery. And it was that cruel accident ? or was it an accident? This eventually brought Captain Fattorini to Occupied Germany as the newest and most bemused member of TRR-2, a unit quite unlike anything he had encountered in his six years of soldiering.## ### INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Please Note. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. ## THE BRAINTREE MISSION by Nicholas E Wyckoff 1957 ## ## THIS BOOK: This book is classified: as VERY GOOD. This is the 1957 edition and the first edition published in 1957. The binding is maroon linen; the page edges are discoloured due to the age and quality of the paper stock: bumping to the spine.## ## The NARRATIVE entitled The Braintree Mission is a work of fiction in the context of history. It concerns people, their patriotism and politics in a period that has been well by historians, biographers, diarists, letter pamphleteers, orators, and others. Historical events, the characters and opinions of historical persons are referred to with respect for accuracy. ## ## The readers are informed that two principal persons appearing in the narrative are entirely creations of Edward Humbird, sixth Earl of Hemynge, and Giuseppe Tompkins, his clerk. All episodes in which historical persons meet with these two, or consider words Of deeds, are of necessity fiction?in which, equal necessity, there is a mingling of truth. ## ## An even more controlling fictional element in the tale is the colonial policy attributed to Lord North's ministry in London in the year 1770. This policy was never proposed, which motivates Lord's mission to Boston. Odd times in the previous decade, various people in and in America gave ineffectual consideration to &'Tices that somehow resemble it. Of course, it ought to have been proposed, adopted, and effected with boldness. If it had been, the results must have been almost ?precisely those outlined in the tale.## ## INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Please Note. FREE SHIPPING IS UK ONLY. The sorcerer Nash, grievously wounded by Robert Douglas when he wielded the Word of Destruction, destroyed the evil Malachi and razed Elita almost to the ground, has spent years rebuilding his strength and increasing the unholy Bond that binds the usurper King Selar ever closer to him. Jenn, though kept virtual prisoner by Eachern, her brutish husband, has had the solace of her son Andrew as he grows ever more in his father's image. But times are changing: Selar plots to spread his iron rule even further, coveting Mayenne, his brother's kingdom. Eachern plots to send Andrew from his mother so he can subdue his young, unwilling bride even more . . . and Robert plots to raise an army and free his beloved country from the dual threat of Selar and Nash, the Angel of Darkness. The Books of Elita combine magic, politics and romance in a magnificent tale of betrayal and revenge.
