As radio stations aired in the late 1980s and repeated a decade later: In 1946, California lawyer Tom Ferguson rolled up his sleeves, threw a shovel over his shoulder, and marched into the remote jungles of southern Mexico. Armed with a quote by Joseph Smith that the Lord had "a hand in providing the Book of Mormon true in the eyes of all the people, " Ferguson's goal was: Shut the mouths of the critics who said such evidence did not exist. Ferguson began an odyssey that included twenty-four trips to Central America, eventually resulting in a mountain of evidence supporting Book of Mormon claims. Like a modern-day Heinrich Schliemann, who located the cities associated with Homer's Iliad, Ferguson devoted his life to locating the actual cities mentioned in the Book of Mormon. But by the late 1970s, Ferguson had become convinced that the Mormon scripture was not based on real, historical events. After the discovery of Ferguson's office files, which document the adventurer's studies in the 1970s and 80s, archivist Stan Larson was able to piece together Ferguson's own analysis of the archaeological evidence Ferguson himself gathered, first as a defender and then as a disbeliever in the literalness of the Book of Mormon narratives. ; 6" x 9"; 305 pages.

Talmage earned his M.S. in geology and chemistry from Lehigh University at Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in 1923, and two years later received his Ph.D. in economic geology from Harvard University. No other books by him found but he did receive a Eugene Field Society award. A WWI vet, in 1937 FDR had him organize a reunion of surviving union & confederate soldiers. The intro reads: "This work was started in 1939 and covers the cause and development of the present World War. The original manuscript was ready for publication at the time Pearl Harbor was attacked; publication was withheld and the epilogue, - "THE WAR COMES" and a record of the events to the time of publication was added." He speaks in generalities; ". of those who were crucified upon war's unholy cross of greed, bigotry and hate ." and in specifics; affixing the cause of WWII as being founded in the Treaty of Versailles. He damns all religions but the Quakers. This is all written in verse; ". instead of conventional prose because it affords a better medium of expression.". There are 40 poems in 4 line stanzas. "DECEPTION BEGETS SUSPICION" reads in part; "Our leaders conceal a war horror story, One that will add a new pain to those bereaved; Then release it with all hate's pictures gory-- When a war bond sales is to be achieved. . When the first air raid on Tokyo was done, Reports indicated no planes were lost; Months later when a bond drive was to be run, They revealed that raid was a frightful cost".
