The associated design requirements for reduced structural weight and improved fatigue life represent the major challenges for todays aircraft structures and have significantly intensified the competition between metallic and composite airframe applications. New metallic design concepts try to face this competition by combining latest materials and innovative manufacturing methods, like high speed machining, laser beam welding or friction stir welding, which allows for possible savings with respect to structural weight and manufacturing costs. However, due to their integral characteristics, the damage tolerance behaviour of these new designs is generally inferior to the common differential design. Reliable estimations on the fatigue life of integrally stiffened structures consequently necessitate assessment methodologies that are capable to include additional manufacturing influences and offer numerical efficiency in order to be practical for parametric studies during airframe design. Therefore, the development and enhancement of simulation methods for efficient and reliable evaluation of cracks and crack growth represents the main objective of this thesis. Two simulation methods are implemented and investigated for this purpose, that are based on different approaches and intended for distinct applications. One method is based on analytical stress function expressions and enables a very efficient evaluation of the complete fatigue crack growth life of cracked airframe structures. The proposed approach in this context is generally based on plane assumptions and limited to pure mode I crack loading. In order to be able to additionally consider crack turning under mixed mode loading, a second simulation method is presented which implements an extended finite element framework for a mesh independent representation of cracks in two dimensions. The additional combination with the material force concept, as alternative crack state parameter, allows for automated simulations of crack growth under mixed mode loading without any need for remeshing operations. Both simulation methods are validated based on different crack configurations and are applied for crack growth investigations of varying configurations of integrally stiffened panels under pure mode I and mixed mode loading conditions. In this context, a special focus is set on the influences of additional internal stresses that follow either from the applied manufacturing processes or an intentional prestressing of the stiffeners. Despite the general limitation to plane considerations, the proposed methods show a good accordance with experimental, theoretical and alternative numerical results. This has constituted one ofthe major themes in humanistic and social scientific thought since the mid-twentieth century. This book discusses the defining elements of the study of these themes (Discourse Analysis), throws more light on the narrative discourse showing its implications on the pedagogic role of translation. The major interest of this study lies in the belief that mere descriptive accounts of sentences are insufficient in connected discourse. One needs to go beyond the surface realisation in order to attain the intended meaning. Thus, it is not enough to describe the internal structure of the elements in a sentence or a discourse; the ¿why¿ and the ¿where¿ these elements should be used is equally important. It is for this reason that the study draws from Functional Grammar and Relevance theoretical frameworks to identify and characterize the constituents of the Nweh narrative genre and to portray the relevance of such a study in Discourse Analysis to translation, both as a discipline and as a pedagogic tool in Second Language Acquisition contexts. It is hoped that language teachers and translators will use the suggestions in this book to ameliorate their performances. Diese aus der Kombination entstandenen Faserverbundwerkstoffe erlangten jedoch erst in den 1940er Jahren eine industrielle Relevanz, als Glasfasern großtechnisch hergestellt werden konnten. Heutzutage gibt es eine Vielzahl von Faserverbundwerkstoffen, von denen glasfaserverstärkte Kunststoffe mit einer Epoxidharzmatrix einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter sind. In dieser Dissertation wird ein Einblick in die Herstellung von konventionellen Polyolefinen, wie z.B. Polyethylen, sowie von faserverstärkten Kunststoffen, die diverse Fasermaterialien enthalten können, gegeben. Bei der Herstellung von Bauteilen aus den genannten Halbzeugen spielt die Qualitätssicherung und somit die damit verbundene Messtechnik eine bedeutende Rolle. Hierzu wird ein Überblick über die zurzeit industriell relevanten Messtechniken, die sowohl zerstörend, als auch zerstörungsfrei arbeiten, gegeben. An diesem Punkt kann die zerstörungsfreie und kostengünstige Dauerstrich THz-Messtechnik als bildgebendes Messsystem mit der im Rahmen dieser Arbeit entwickelten Datenauswertung eingesetzt werden. Das hierfür verwendete System nutzt das Prinzip der Photomischung in einem Halbleitermaterial, welches auf der Oberfläche eine metallisierte Antennenstruktur besitzt. Durch Anwendung einer phasenstarr gekoppelten Sender-Empfängerkombination ist eine kohärente Signaldetektion möglich. Mit Hilfe der gewonnenen sinusförmigen Interferogramme, die teilweise nur aus ein bis zwei Perioden bestehen, können die Amplituden- und Phasenwerte jedes Bildpunktes bestimmt werden, aus denen sich Materialparameter wie Brechungsindex und Absorption extrahieren lassen. Weiterführend wird mit dieser Arbeit gezeigt, wie durch die Auswertung des Amplituden- und Phasenverlaufs des Signals auch eine örtliche Bewertung beispielsweise der Güte von Kunststoffschweißverbindungen oder die Detektion von fehlerhaften Zwischenlagen in GFK sowie dem vorliegenden Faservolumengehalt möglich ist. Auch die Unterscheidung von Einschlüssen wie Luft oder Metall in Polyethylen ist anhand der Messsignale möglich. Um dafür öffentliche Netze zu nutzen, werden in der Regel virtuelle private Netze (VPN) betrieben. Deren manuelle Konfiguration und Betrieb ist jedoch aufwändig und potentiell fehleranfällig. Dieser Umstand hat zur Entwicklung zahlreicher Autokonfigurationsansätze geführt, die allerdings bisher weder Sabotageresistenz noch Robustheit adressieren. Die wenigen skalierbaren Systeme erfüllen selbst einfache funktionale Anforderungen nicht, etwa den Einsatz privater IP-Adressen. Zwei Ansätzen konnten sogar eklatante Sicherheitsmängel nachgewiesen werden. Ausgehend davon ist im Rahmen der Arbeit ein neuartiges Konzept für einen IPsec-basierten VPN-Autokonfigurationsansatz entstanden. Durch den Verzicht auf exponierte Systeme stellt er die Grundlage für ein skalierbares und verfügbares System dar.
