Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Liam Beckett is old school. One of Northern Ireland's best-loved sports pundits, few can touch him when it comes to talking about road racing and football. And he doesn't just talk the talk, he's walked the walk - he was Robert Dunlop's mechanic and mentor for almost twenty years and during his ten-year football career he was both player and manager. In this new book, Beckett talks frankly about what these sports mean to him, how they have changed and the challenges that lie ahead. Among other things, he talks passionately about his sporting heroes; relives the games he'll never forget; gets stuck into those who co-opt sport into religion or politics; and opens up about the loss of William Dunlop and his decision to take a break from road racing. Straight-talking, funny and generous, this is Liam Beckett - telling it like it is! The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Breakfast in a hotel, a stroll through town then it's off to a meting with clients, followed by dinner and bed . what could be more routine in the life of a travelling businessman? But this is Hiroshima, no ordinary city. And for this Belfast businessman, the past is not quite so innocent as the product that he is selling. When he meets Ike, a fellow traveller from Belfast who just happens to be in Japan for a conference on 'writing and conflict', the narrator gradually finds that the past and its legacies cannot be ignored, whether he's in Belfast or Hiroshima. Paperback. Condition: Fine. In 1922 Belfast-born Dan Cummings left home three days after his 15th birthday to begin a Juniorate at a Redemptorist College in Limerick. He was not to live at home again. Years later he was persuaded by his then ten year old niece to 'write his life story'. This is his personal account of a fascinating life, from a young lad in troubled Belfast, to missionary in the Philippines. Later, in wartime Europe, he served as an army chaplain, was involved in the D-Day landings and there to see Belsen concentration camp liberated. On his return to Ireland his work included Professor of Scripture in Galway, Superior in Limerick and Prefect of the Church in Dundalk. As Director of the Belfast Clonard Confraternity and Missions for non-Catholics, his innovative ecumenical work sparked intense interest from his adversary - a young Ian Paisley. 'Rest and Be Thankful' is meticulously observed and recorded with forthright honesty. He finished writing in 1970 and died seven years later. At his request, the manuscript remained unpublished until now, having been entrusted to the same niece who had persuaded him to put pen to paper decades earlier.

Paperback. Condition: Good. In 1971 Sam McAughtry was at his lowest ebb - not only was he disillusioned with politics, he was also struggling to cope with a drink problem. Yet, by 2002, he had become one of Ireland's most acclaimed writers and broadcasters and was legendary for his passionate political activism. This forthright and revealing memoir is the story of that transformation. With honesty and humour McAughtry describes how he rebuilt his life and discovered his talent as a storyteller and a writer. Along the way he gives a vivid account of his encounters with writers, politicians and celebrities and of his work as an award-winning journalist for the Irish Times and as a broadcaster for the BBC and RTE. Never afraid to speak his mind, McAughtry's view of politics is candid and refreshingly open. Embracing his identity as both Irish and British, he was a key member of the Peace Train Organisation and an influential trade union activist. A Belfastman through and through, his memoir records his twenty-five-year love affair with Dublin and is a tribute to the openness he found there. His election to the Irish Senate, the first person from Northern Ireland to hold this honour, is a testament to the esteem in which the city holds him. Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Louise Mason lived through every mother's nightmare. Both her children were taken into care following the false accusation that Louise had harmed the younger child, who was just four weeks old at the time. Social services kept the children - and tried to put them up for adoption - even after Louise had been cleared in a criminal court of all charges against her. When she gave birth to a third child three years later, social services were at the hospital within hours to take her baby away. Failed by the system and unjustly labelled an unfit mother, Louise never stopped fighting to get her children back. With the unwavering support of her solicitor, Carmel McGilloway, Louise fought a four-year battle through the courts. In June 2006 a judge ruled that her children should be returned to her. Told here for the first time, this is Louise's own story: her feelings when her children were taken away, her fears as she took on the system and her hopes for the future as she tries to rebuild her family life. "A Mother's Nightmare" is the story of a woman who found the strength to keep fighting when it seemed as though the whole world was against her. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Ireland is known throughout the world for its rich and vibrant storytelling. Josie Gray is a proud inheritor of this tradition, a yarn-spinner whose evocative and authentic stories are steeped in the rural west of Ireland community to which he belongs. Beautifully crafted, subtly paced, and richly textured, Gray's stories vividly and affectionately bring to life a disparate cast of characters and recreate the fabric of their everyday lives. Disputes, laughter, courting, death, drink and general all-round skulduggery are the order of the day as Gray skilfully weaves together myth and fact, truth and near-truth. Captivated by these tales, acclaimed poet Tess Gallagher worked with Gray to give his oral stories written form. The result is a stunning collection that preserves the intimacy, melody and rhythm of Gray's voice. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition.
