Seller: Between the Covers-Rare Books, Inc. ABAA, Gloucester City, NJ, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Quarto measuring 9" x 11". White cloth over stiff paper boards with titles stamped in silver. Contains 15 sepia-toned gelatin silver photographs measuring 4.5" x 6" and 5.5" x 8" with captions. Very good album with chips, tears, and rubbing with near fine photographs. A commercially produced wedding scrapbook and photo album by Fredrick A Stokes Company out of New York with "eight illustrations in color" by Maud Humphrey and Pauline Longpre "also thirty illustrations in black and white by FM Spiegle and others." The wedding was between Martha "Patti" Darlington Huey and Howland Speakman in Chadd's Ford, Pennsylvania in 1901. The scrapbook includes invitations, gift tags, letters, newspaper clippings and photographs from their big day. One clipping headline reads, "Chicago Man Weds in East," and claims the events included "hundreds of electric lights lit up the lawn, the ceremony being solemnized in a floral bower." Another article reads, "the bride and groom left for a wedding trip, driving to West Chester late in the evening. They will travel through Canada and will when they return go to housekeeping in Chicago." The photos show the wedding party, the home where the wedding took place, images from the honeymoon, and their home in Chicago. A nice collection of ephemera and photography from a turn-of-the-century wedding.
