Add to basketSoftcover. Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. [all books are in uniformly nice condition, nice and clean with the sole exception that each one has the former owner's name or initials plus the date & place of purchase written in ink at the top of the title page, along with an occasional brief editorial comment; additionally, each is encased in a protective plastic cover (removable if desired)]. Trade PB This is a uniform series of eight small paperback books, Sherlock Holmes adventures "written and researched" by Allen Sharp. Each is posited as "a new Sherlock Holmes story based on the notebooks and papers of John H. Watson MD" -- the conceit being, as explained in the preface, that these are previously unpublished adventures that have been "pieced together" by the author using "Watson's notebooks, old newspaper reports, police files, and other scraps of information which the documents provide." (Some of these elements are used to illustrated the stories.) Although their format and general tone suggests that they are targeted at young adult readers -- each title is preceded, on its title page, by the phrase "Can you solve" -- I've no doubt that they can be read and enjoyed by Sherlock Holmes aficionados of all ages (and indeed, their former owner -- who obviously DID read them -- was definitely a grown-up), and the whole "previously unknown source material" angle is firmly within the hallowed tradition of Holmes pastiches. The eight titles, each beginning (of course) with "The Case of the," are: "Baffled Policeman"; "Buchanan Curse"; "Devil's Hoofmarks"; "Frightened Heiress"; "Gentle Conspirators"; "Howling Dog"; "Man Who Followed Himself"; and "Silent Canary." These little books seem moderately scarce in the online marketplace, and in any case I'm sure you can understand that rounding them all up would be almost as time-consuming and expensive as buying this nice-looking set. ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of these books, which together weigh a bit more than the average hardcover novel; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.***.

Brink is one of the "Cornell realists" and in this book he explores a number of issues in the foundations of ethics including the nature and justification of moral knowledge, the semantics of moral terms, the nature of moral properties, and the objectivity of ethics. An attractive copy of this important defense of moral realism and uncommon thus.
