Pura Belpré Illustrator Award Honor - American Library Association (ALA) Recipient of the Pura Belpré Illustrator Award Honor, this is a fascinating bilingual picture book biography of Peruvian archaeologist and national icon Julio C. Tello, who unearthed Peru's ancient cultures and fostered pride in the country's Indigenous history. Growing up in the late 1800s, Julio Tello, an Indigenous boy, spent time exploring the caves and burial grounds in the foothills of the Peruvian Andes. Nothing scared Julio, not even the ancient human skulls he found. His bravery earned him the nickname Sharuko, which means "brave" in Quechua, the language of the Native people of Peru. At the age of twelve, Julio moved to Lima to continue his education. While in medical school, he discovered an article about the skulls he had found. The skulls had long ago been sent to Lima to be studied by scientists. The article renewed Julio's interest in his ancestry, and he decided to devote his medical skills to the study of Peru's Indigenous history. Over his lifetime, Julio Tello made many revolutionary discoveries at archeological sites around Peru, and he worked to preserve the historical treasures he excavated. He showed that Peru's Indigenous cultures had been established thousands of years ago, disproving the popular belief that Peruvian culture had been introduced more recently from other countries. He fostered pride in his country's Indigenous ancestry, making him a hero to all Peruvians. Because of the brave man once known as Sharuko, people around the world today know of Peru's long history and its living cultural legacy. Elisa Chavarri (illustrator).…

Hardback. Condition: Good. A magical tale portraying the crucial first moments of contact between an indigenous culture and the outside word.Late one Saturday afternoon, three brothers leave their village to hunt wari, the wild pig their people depend on for food. While hunting they discover a magical vine that can make them invisible-but they will only enjoy this power if they promise never to sell the meat they hunt, and never to hunt with guns, only with sticks. All is well until European traders arrive to buy the precious wari meat-and the brothers forget the promises they made so long ago. This is a Miskito version of the classic folk theme of how the very thing that gives you power can turn against you if not respected and used properly. The Invisible Hunters is about caring for our environment and our community, and about not losing sight of what is important. Joe Sam (illustrator).…

Paperback. Condition: Good. About the book: Syrup Sandwiches: Choose Not to Give Up! is a true story of survival, perseverance, and purpose. Born in rural Georgia and raised in the tough streets of Brooklyn, Anthony Owens grew up in a world where struggle was constant and dreams were fragile. From nights of hunger soothed by syrup sandwiches to the disciplined years that forged his twenty-year naval career, Owens charts a journey that proves hardship doesn't have to define you-it can refine you. With raw honesty and heartfelt reflection, he takes readers through moments of poverty, loss, resilience, and redemption, showing how faith, grit, and choice can turn obstacles into opportunity. This is more than a memoir-it's a call to rise above circumstance and claim the power of your own story. In a time when hope can feel distant, Syrup Sandwiches reminds us that giving up is never the answer-because sometimes, the sweetest victories come from the struggle itself.About the Author: Anthony Owens bridges service, resilience, and storytelling. After twenty years of decorated naval duty, he transitioned into civilian leadership, serving as a network engineer at Langley Air Force Base and a federal IT specialist. He holds degrees in sociology and business, but it is his life experience-from a tumultuous Brooklyn childhood to a career built on service-that fuels his writing.Owens' memoir Syrup Sandwiches: Choose Not to Give Up! won the 2023 Next Generation Indie Book Award in the BIPOC category and multiple International Impact Book Awards. He went on to write the children's book Raw Power, the suspense novel Reasons, and Fatherhood Matters!, a powerful call to recognize the vital role of fathers. His work reflects his lifelong commitment to perseverance, justice, and uplifting others.…

Hardback. Condition: Good. Rhys Kinkade was my everything. Then he was nothing. Now he's the only thing that can save my career. Fifteen years ago, I was eighteen and Nashville-bound. I thought Rhys would follow; he knew he wouldn't. Now, I'm one album shy of headlining my own world tour and the words have dried up. Too much betrayal. Not enough fresh mountain air. It's time to come home to Bourbon Canyon. After Rhys plucks me off the side of the road in the middle of a thunderstorm, it's clear the now-divorced single dad isn't the boy I once loved. For one, his daughters don't know he broke their favorite country singer's heart after high school. For another, he's grumpy. He stress bakes. And he can't put space between us fast enough. And yet, one kiss later and I'm four songs deep into my new album. With Rhys as inspiration, I can achieve my dream. But when it's time to go, that'll be the end of us. He's never leaving Bourbon Canyon, while the whole world will be my stage. If he can't set aside the past and see what's waiting for us, then the biggest love of my life will be nothing but a bourbon harmony. Montoya, Malaquias (illustrator).…
