Unknown Binding. Condition: Like New. First Edition. 1973 STATED FIRST PRINTING hardcover with dust jacket. Well-preserved UNREAD COPY with unmarked, crisp-edged, well-bound pages. Jacket remains clean and bright with only extremely minor shelf rubbing. Nice copy! From the jacket blurb: "Black Hawk and his war of 1832 foreshadowed all the later Indian wars of the west and were the start of an ongoing series of Indian-white conflicts that culminated at Little Big Horn with Custer's "last stand." Black Hawk was the first to attempt to form an Indian confederacy of the Midwest tribes, as Pontiac had attempted such a union in the Detroit area in 1763 and as Tecumseh had tried in 1811. That such past efforts had failed did not keep Black Hawk from trying to withstand the steady encroachment of the whites into territory that had been the Indians' for hundreds of years.".

Hardbound. Condition: Very Good. 1st Printing, so stated. Description: Includes a few b&w illustrations. This is part of the publisher's Great Events in World History series. In 1767 Philadelphia lawyer John Dickinson wrote a series of letters to his 'beloved countrymen'. He warned them of threats to American liberty hidden within recent English parliamentary acts. The letters, which Dickinson signed 'The Farmer', became enormously popular and were reprinted throughout the colonies. Dickinson based his protest on the rights guaranteed under British law and advocated conciliation rather than revolution and independence. Because of his conciliatory stand, Dickonson is not remembered as one of the great patriots, although his numerous writings during the revolutionary period had a significant impact. The author focuses on ''The Pennsylvania Farmer's'' little known contribution to the revolution. BINDING/CONDITION: red cloth; a Very Good book, with a Good+ dust jacket. index, bibliography, notes. 8vo (about 8'' to 9.5'' tall). 148 pages.
