Rossetti conceived the idea of a literary journal shortly after the first exhibition by members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1849. Four issues appeared in 1850 and were reprinted in facsimile in 1901 with an explanatory introduction by W. M. Rossetti, Dante Gabriel's younger brother who wrote: 'I am quite aware that some of the articles in 'The Germ' are far from good, and some others, though good on essentials, are to a certain extent juvenile; but juvenility is anything but uninteresting when it is that of such men as Coventry Patmore and Dante Rossetti.'. 'The Germ' contains short stories, essays and literary reviews, but most particularly poetry, such as Rossetti's The Blessed Demozel, Christina Rossetti's Dreamland, Beil Scott's Morning Sleep and Patmore's The Seasons, thus emphasising the claim that 'an attempt will be made, both intrinsically and by review, to claim for Poetry that place to which its present development in the literature of this country so emphatically entitles it'." Ali el-Khouli presents the plain vases manufactured in a variety of stones. These were among the finest containers in the king's furnishings and form the best preserved set from their period. Rotislav Holthoer catalogues the pottery, much of which contained wine from a wide range of vintages that accompanied the king to the next world. Colin A. Hope gives a detailed study of the jar sealings, which are technologically significant, as well as containing important economic and administrative information, principally about wine production. Olaf E. Kaper catalogues and discusses the door sealings removed in the clearance of the tomb, as well as the object seals, which are the most extensive series from a single tomb. He successfully elucidates the renowned 'Necropolis Seal' showing a recumbent jackal and a series of bound captives.
