The pieces, which date from 1968 to 1972, are mostly reprinted from Rolling Stone and The Phoenix. Many are reviews of groups or individual performers, via their albums and/or in concert, including: Bob Dylan; The Rolling Stones; The Beatles; The Beach Boys; Blood, Sweat and Tears; Three Dog Night; The Grateful Dead; Creedence Clearwater Revival; Joni Mitchell; Carole King; The Band; B.B. King; Muddy Waters; Aretha Franklin; and others. There are also a number of think pieces on topics such as "Rock and Art" and "Confessions of an Aging Rock Critic," as well as journalistic reports about the first Ali-Frazier fight, the death of Janis Joplin, and various other events. Laid in is the publisher's original press release about the book, which is age-toned and heavily worn at the edges. One name that does *not* appear in the book, however, is that of Bruce Springsteen, because it wasn't until a couple of years later that he first "saw rock and roll future," and began his advocacy for, and later collaboration with, The Boss.
