Book condition - Very Good ; contents very clean, no inscriptions, no foxing, binding firm with inner hinges intact ; original oatmeal coloured cloth with the title in gilt on the spine and… the Daumier name in gilt on the front ; very light wear to corners and edges, back clean, spine complete with spine ends not creased or split, spine not faded and with bright gilt, front clean with complete and bright gilt. Dustjacket - Very Good ; light corner and edge wear, back clean, spine complete and clean, the spine colour has faded from a cream to white but the title in black remains very clear, front clean, the front top edge is slightly rubbed and creased ; d/j now in clear, removable, protective wrapper. The contents consist of a 15 page introduction (in English) , written by written by Françoise Parturier, followed by 50 full-page plates of cartoons published in Le Charivari between 1844 and 1849 (please see photos for examples) ; the caption for each plate is in French but after the plates is a Notes section giving an English translation of each caption plus information about each plate. A large, quite heavy book so postage will likely be higher than the standard rate quoted on ABEBooks.
