Neuware -Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articlesavailable from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Robert C. Masonis a veteran of the Vietnam War and author of several books, includinghis first, best-selling memoir: Chickenhawk. Mason piloted Huey 'Slicks'in the United States Army as a Warrant Officer 1. He was assigned to the1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) for around a year (including over 6months in Vietnam). Mason spent an intense two days of the Battle of IaDrang hovering for many hours far above the terrain, while a fullcolonel and two Army captains sat in the back of his helicoptercoordinating ground units by radio. Mason followed this over-extendedduty with a contested night-landing to pick up wounded troopers. Masonwould also ferry supplies to an artillery unit and deliver more troopsfrom 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry to Landing Zone X-Ray later in thatbattle. In repeated missions, Mason delivered more than a hundredwounded troops from the battle zone to the Division hospital tent andcame under fire repeatedly, taking several hits to his helicopter. Masonbelieved that a maneuvering helicopter was a poor target, so he turnedhis aircraft back and forth when things got too hot.VDM Verlag, Dudweiler Landstraße 99, 66123 Saarbrücken 148 pp. Englisch.
