Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book provides an account of the author's reasons for non-conformity and is a treatise on the nature of the office of a bishop. The author argues that the episcopacy, as it was practiced in England during his time, was a departure from the original model established by the apostles. He believed that the bishop should be a pastor and teacher, rather than a ruler with authority over other ministers. The book explores the history of the episcopacy from the time of the apostles to the author's day, and examines the arguments for and against the various forms of church government. The author's insights into the nature of the pastoral office and the role of the bishop in the church continue to be of value to those interested in the history and practice of Christianity.
