This book analyzes the forest conditions of the Absaroka division of the Yellowstone Forest Reserve and surrounding areas, examining the different types of stands, the causes of forest loss, and the potential for sustainable forestry in the region. After the glaciers retreated, the region was home to a vast coniferous forest of limber pine and lodgepole pine, but human activity in recent centuries has drastically changed the forest composition and structure. The author comprehensively discusses the impact of logging, grazing, and fires on the forests, and provides insights into the natural changes that have shaped the forest over time. Compiling data from government records and the author's own field observations, this book offers a detailed and nuanced picture of the forest ecology of this important region, making a valuable contribution to the understanding of forest management and conservation.
