Fortunately, some have been restored by enthusiasts, and are now busier than they have been for generations. It is these waterways which have closed, officially or not, at some time or other, which are depicted in the author's two volumes. These early photographs, many dating back to the last century, show the navigations when they wete busy with commercial traffic, or derlict befotre being finally eradicated. They depict scenes that have gone for ever, and will be of great historical interest to canal and boating enthusiasts, industrial archaeologists, and transport and local historians.
