This is an account of the official residence of the South African ambassador in London. "The history of Highveld is interwoven with the English setting in which it stands. It was built in 1914 by architect Henry Martineau Fletcher, of Grey's Inn Square and secretary of the Royal Institute of Architects. Called The New House, it was commissioned by Fletcher's cousin, George Macauley Booth, businman, patron of the arts, and Lloyd George's man of push and go at the Ministry of Munitions." The house was acquired by the South African diplomatic service in 1946. .
