The author examines the origins of this liturgy, tracing its development from its roots in the early church to its eventual replacement by the Roman rite. Drawing on a wealth of primary sources, including missals, sacramentaries, and patristic writings, the author sheds light on the unique characteristics of the Gallican liturgy, its evolution over time, and its profound impact on the religious life of medieval France.
