Prior to its publication, computation of these values was mostly inaccurate and required a great deal of referencing from various sources. The author's goal was to compile all essential data into one easy-to-use volume, using the most accurate computations possible. Of particular note is the author's expansion of the Regnaults results for saturated steam. He also provides a full translation of Regnault's important papers. The author explains the importance of accurately computing clearance, provides methods for doing so, and incorporates the results into the computation of the ratio of expansion. The book also includes tables for finding the factors of evaporation and the economy of feed-water heating. This book remains one of the most important references for engineers, containing proven formulas, methods, and data for accurately assessing the performance of steam engines. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
