The approach of combining harmony and unison with organ support provides a refreshing departure from traditional singing styles. The book includes guidance for adopting this technique effectively, ensuring that the congregation focuses on the melody. It presents practical suggestions for incorporating variety into hymns of varying lengths, enhancing engagement and preventing monotony. The author advocates for moderation in the use of this variation, suggesting one or two verses to maintain the impact. Drawing inspiration from the successful implementation of this approach in French ecclesiastical settings, this book aims to introduce a welcome and enduring element to English hymn-singing traditions. By providing accessible and adaptable settings, the author invites choirs and congregations to explore new dimensions of musical expression while preserving the essence of beloved hymns.
