The author made use of ancient sources that are now lost, and the book contains much unique material. This book is the work of an accomplished scholar and an entertaining storyteller, and it became a foundational source for later Persian poets, such as the famous Ferdowsi, whose 10th-century epic poem Shahnameh drew heavily on the Ghorar. The text also contains valuable insights into the reigns of the early Islamic rulers of Persia, and provides a rich source of anecdotes, maxims, and observations on human nature.
