These reprà sentants exercised vast powers to quell any signs of resistance to the central government and to instill revolutionary fervor in the regions they were sent to. The author demonstrates the systematic implementation of the Reign of Terror in the departments of France, and the complex social and political struggles at play during this period. Ultimately, this book sheds light on the complexities of the French Revolution and the ways in which the Reign of Terror expanded and consolidated the revolution's authority.
