This book delves into the historical evolution of historiography in France, particularly the ways in which French historians approached the task of writing history from the 16th to the 17th century. From the initial medieval practice of compiling records to Paul-Ãmileâs influential humanist approach that drew upon classical models, the author leads readers through a period of transition in which French historians grappled with the tensions between historical accuracy, literary style, and the desire to convey moral lessons. The book offers new perspectives on the motivations and methods of historians during this era and sheds light on their conceptions of the role and significance of history.
