At a time when humanism was taking hold in Florence and other parts of Italy, the author argues that Giustinian was one of the major figures of this movement in Venice. Giustinian was a close friend and correspondent of some of the most important humanists of the period, such as Guarino, Traversari, and Barbaro, and his influence on Venetian culture and his contributions to Renaissance thought are explored in detail. This book draws on a range of sources, including Giustinian's letters and orations, to shed light both on his life and thought, as well as the broader political and intellectual context of his life. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
