Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book compiles and summarizes a collection of letters written by Dr. William Stratford, a canon of Christ Church, Oxford, to Edward, later Lord Harley. Beginning in the summer of 1710, the letters span two decades and present an insider's perspective on political events surrounding the fall of the Whigs and the rise of Robert Harley to power. Dr. Stratford, an ardent Tory, provides an unvarnished account of his interactions and those of his peers with Harley and his son. Within the book, scholars will find valuable insights into the political climate of early 18th century England as well as the personal relationships and rivalries among key figures within Oxford. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
