The author, raised in a strong fellowship of Universalist believers, was ordained into ministry at 17 years of age. Though successful in his work, the author grew increasingly distressed by both the ineffectiveness and immorality that seemed to surround his ministry. A period of intense personal turmoil ensued, including declining health and a brief mental breakdown. Out of these turbulent years, the author emerged convinced of the falsehood of Universalism and came to accept the fundamental ideas and practices of Evangelical Christianity. The author found great solace and transformation through acceptance of these ideas, and this book serves both as a personal testimony and a critique of Universalism.
