This book is a collection of psalm and hymn tunes, anthems, and chants for two, three or four voices, with a figured bass for the organ or piano forte, arranged by Thomas Hastings and Solomon Warriner. It was published in Utica, New York, in 1818 and brings together standard church music with new compositions. The book features a variety of popular tunes that are still sung today, such as "Old Hundredth", "St. Anns", and "Shrewsbury", as well as original works by the compilers. It also includes a section on the rudiments of music, making it an ideal resource for choirs, worship assemblies, and music students. The collection reflects the musical practices of the early American republic and provides historical context for the development of choral music in the United States. It demonstrates the combined efforts of two distinguished musical figures, highlighting the shared musical heritage and cultural significance of this era.
