This book explores the significant transformation in the structure and role of the French government during the 18th century, as depicted through the proceedings of the Estates-General of 1789. The author meticulously examines the complex socio-political landscape of pre-revolutionary France, highlighting the growing influence of the Third Estate (the common people) and the subsequent power struggles between the three traditional estates of the realm: the clergy, the nobility, and the commoners. The book delves into the debates, discussions, and decisions made during the Estates-General, shedding light on the evolution of French democracy and the rise of a new political order. Through the lens of this pivotal event, the author unravels the tensions between tradition and change, the struggle for equality and representation, and the birth of a modern democratic nation.
