These are prayers connected to specific hours of the day or night, traditionally recited by clergy and certain religious orders. Originating from the Sarum rite, a notable liturgy of Salisbury Cathedral with roots in the late 12th century, the material here was translated from printed editions of the early 16th century and collated with earlier manuscripts. The hymns are taken from contemporary sources and the musical notation is based on three manuscripts. The result is a comprehensive and historically informed text that provides valuable insights into medieval liturgical practices and devotional life. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
