Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is an exploration of organised support for blind people in Great Britain, from its beginnings in the 18th century to the present day. It examines how, over time, these efforts have gradually shifted from charitable support into efforts to integrate blind people into society. The author traces the development of educational initiatives for the blind, from the early days of institutions to the present-day focus on mainstream education. The book also looks at the evolution of state support for education and employment, highlighting the significance of legislation introduced in the last half of the 19th century and 20th century. Ultimately, it argues that a better understanding of the past is essential for developing future policy in this area.
