The author, a clergyman, establishes that limited ministerial authority has been the norm from the time of the apostles to the present day. The author traces the distinction between ministerial order and mission through the Old and New Testaments, observing that even Jesus Christâs ministry was limited in time and place. The apostles, too, despite receiving authority from Christ to preach to all nations, were not without limitation. Instead, they awaited further instruction from the Holy Spirit before commencing their mission. The author then examines the ministry of the early Church, particularly focusing on the role of bishops in ordaining and overseeing clergy. The author concludes that a limited commission is essential to the ministerial office, and that this principle remains true in the present day.
