Our speculation about ABC No Rio is based on it being purchased with other items from the space and a small anarchist symbol on the second page which appears to have the letters b and c written in the top part of the symbol. Pieces reflect on capitalism and war, how women are treated as sex objects, anti-Reagan musings, gun culture in America, etc. The general tone feels rather apocalyptic, perhaps reflecting the mood of youth in a Reagan administration. GOOD condition. Light toning and edgewear, with offsetting along the edges. Small area of staining at the lower left side. Price request in red marker on the lower front cover. Sixteen issues, photomechanically reproduced on 8 ½" x 11" paper in various colors and bound with three staples. Each issue is generally 22-28 pages. In their first issue, Jackson Stoner explains that the title and inspiration for this zine came from a magazine of the same name published from 1960 to 1980, which primarily focused on the cisgender, white male trans community. The first page of every issue states the purpose of the zine: "1. To provide REPRESENTATION for those identified in the trans and nonbinary community. 2. To provide INFORMATION to those who, through ignorance, condemn that which they do not understand. 3. To provide EDUCATION for those who see evil where none exists." The final page of every issue provides a list of resources available to the transgender community. Stoner describes themselves as a queer, trans/nonbinary, autistic/neurodivergent, Jewish, and disabled artist, zinester, and tattooer. Transvestia is Stoner's first zine, and features voices of trans/nonbinary people around the world. Stoner has also published zines on disability issues, and autistic experiences and struggles. Each issue of Transvestia focuses of a different topic; for example, issue number one is about "coming out" and issue three focuses on religion and transgenderism. Issue eight, which focuses on gender euphoria, contains a content warning paper clipped to the front page, as does issue 12, which is themed holidays. Each zine also begins with an introduction written by Stoner. In the last issue of this run, Stoner explains that their disability has prevented them from keeping tighter publishing deadlines. OCLC records scattered holdings of Transvestia at 11 institutions, including Mills College, Berkeley, Davis, the University of Southern California, Williams and Mary, Princeton, and Michigan State.
