Paperback. Condition: Like New. First Edition. In nearly new condition: firm and square with strong joints, no creases. Just a few hardly noticeable cosmetic rubs. Hence a non-text page shows a small 'damaged' stamp. Despite such this book looks and feels unread. Thus the contents are crisp, fresh and tight. Published by The Sandia Presss, Albuquerque, New Mexco, 1971
Seller: Don's Book Store, Albuquerque, NM, U.S.A.
Trade Paperback. Condition: Good. Second Edition. 301 Pages with a Comprehensive Index. This is a one-inch thick book bound by three large staples that are very tight and holding well. The endpaper/copyright page is torn out by an enthusiastic admirer of flora as shown by the attempt to draw a flower with a crayon. Thankfully the loose page remains and we know that this book is copyrighted and published by Sandia Press in 1971. No other defects noted and the remaining pages are tight and white with no marks. The Sandias have been referred to as the playgound of Albuquerque. Situated only minutes from a large metropolitan area, they offer a marked contrast to the bustle of city life. Approximately one and one-half million people, from all points of the world, visit the Sandias annually. Aside from the natural geologic features, the average visitor is usually more curious about the varied plant life found here, than with any other aspect of the area. The natural desire of an observer to be able to associate a name with a particular plant indicates a botanical curiosity not limited to the professional botanist. This book is designed to be of value to both the plant taxonomist and the earnest amateur, who may desire to know the plants in his surroundings. An understanding of the flora of an area can be a very rewarding hobby, and is also an important part of becoming aware of our environment and its effect on our lives. The Sandias exhibit a wide variety of plant types, including 82 families, 37 genera, and 84 species, from ferns to conifers, from orchids to sunflowers. It is hoped that use of this book will help to promote interest in the botany of this area. Ones first inclination is to collect unknown plants ad to carry them home to be identified at ones leisure. Other avid wild flower collectors are prone to dig up every interesting plant they see for transplantation into their home garden. There are several arguments against following either of the above practices; (I) Wild flowers provide enjoyment for more people when they are left in their natural environment. (2) Wildflowers tend to be somewhat sensitive to disturbance of any kind and are often very difficult to transplant. (3) Many flowers when picked tend to deteriorate very rapidly, thus providing little or no value as bouquets. (4) Finally, a large number of our native wild flowers are on the protected list, protected by state law, and should be left alone. In order that our often fragile wild flowers remain relatively undisturbed, it is suggested that identification be carried out in the field using the key to identification provided in this book. This book had very limited distribution.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. The Systems Ecology Paradigm (SEP) incorporates humans as integral parts of ecosystems and emphasizes issues that have significant societal relevance such as grazing land, forestland, and agricultural ecosystem management, biodiversity and global change impacts. Accomplishing this societally relevant research requires cutting-edge basic and applied research. This book focuses on environmental and natural resource challenges confronting local to global societies for which the SEP methodology must be utilized for resolution. Key elements of SEP are a holistic perspective of ecological/social systems, systems thinking, and the ecosystem approach applied to real world, complex environmental and natural resource problems. The SEP and ecosystem approaches force scientific emphasis to be placed on collaborations with social scientists and behavioral, learning, and marketing professionals. The SEP has given environmental scientists, decision makers, citizen stakeholders, and land and water managers a powerful set of tools to analyse, integrate knowledge, and propose adoption of solutions to important local to global problems. Human communities need holistic and systematic approaches to resolving complex, real-world environmental and natural resource problems threatening the Earth's well-being. The systems ecology paradigm provides that approach by bringing scientists, policy makers and land managers together in collaborative settings to analyse and resolve issues.
