As I have frequently had occasion to observe, he is a bird of the ripest intellect, full of bright ideas. I always say that you've only got to stand on Jeeves, and takes a couple where to restore his tissues. Pretty rotten for me, of course, while he's away. The last time, I found myself engaged to Honoria Glossop, one of those dashed large, brainy, strenuous, dynamic girls. But Jeeves straightened it out. He always does. "Mr Mr. Mulliner, any assemblage of his fellows over and above the number of one constitutes an audience. Far from being adverse to the sound of his own voice, nothing will stop him from recounting the incredible tales of any of his numerous kinsmen - from stammering George, who is only eloquent with the crossword, to Augustine the plucky curate, whose courage is supplied by Chemist Wilfred Mulliner's Buck-u-Uppo. Wodehouse had this to say about the Mulliner stories . 'I am writing as funny as I can, and I can only hope there will be no ill results. First edition, presentation copy, inscribed by Wodehouse to his biographer and bibliographer Jasen on the front free endpaper, "To David from Plum, P. G. Wodehouse". Only Wodehouse's close friends and family knew him as "Plum". David A. Jasen (1937-2022) was the dedicatee of Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves (1963). A ragtime scholar and performer, he shared a passion for music with Wodehouse, a famed musical lyricist. Wodehouse edited and wrote the introduction for this collection of stories by such fellow humourists as Robert Benchley, Leo Rosten, and S. J. Perelman. Jasen p. 257; McIlvaine B10a. Octavo. Illustrations throughout. Original black cloth, spine lettered in silver. With dust jacket. Minor rubbing to spine lettering, spine ends bumped, wear to one lower corner; jacket slightly rubbed but bright, ends and corners chipped, couple of short closed tears to edges, price-clipped: a very good copy in like jacket.
